GST Inclusive vs. GST Exclusive: What's the Difference?
This is the most confusing part for many users. Understanding the difference ensures you don't undercharge or overpay.
GST Exclusive
Add TaxThis means the price of the product does NOT include tax. You need to calculate the tax separately and add it to the cost. This is common in B2B invoices.
Formula:
GST Amount = (Price × Rate) ÷ 100
Total = Price + GST Amount
Example: ₹1000 product + 18% GST = ₹1180 Total.
GST Inclusive
Remove TaxThis means the tax is ALREADY included in the final price (MRP). You need to reverse-calculate to find the original base price.
Formula:
GST Amount = Price - [Price × {100 ÷ (100 + Rate)}]
Example: MRP is ₹1180 (at 18%). Base Price = ₹1000.
Understanding the 3 Types of GST
1. CGST
Central Goods & Services Tax. This portion of the tax goes directly to the Central Government of India.
Intra-State (Within State)2. SGST / UTGST
State / Union Territory GST. This portion goes to the State Government where the goods are consumed.
Intra-State (Within State)3. IGST
Integrated GST. Collected by the Central Govt when goods move from one state to another (Inter-State).
Inter-State (State to State)* Note: If you select 18% GST in our calculator, it automatically splits into 9% CGST + 9% SGST for local transactions.

How to calculate GST from Total Amount?
Base Amount = Total Amount × [100 / (100 + GST Rate)].
For example, if the total price is ₹118 and the rate is 18%, the base price is 118 × (100/118) = ₹100.
